Kudat Celebrates St. Peter's and St. Paul's Day
The Catholic Church commemorates the feast
of St. Peter and Paul , June 29 every year. But due to the absence of our Parish Priest that day, the celebrations in
Kudat Parish was postponed to 6th July , the following Sunday.
Attended
also by faithful from the Taipa and Tajau outstations, it started with a Holy Mass celebration at 8.30 am presided by the
parish priest, Fr. Tobias Chi.
Dancers , dressed in white , preceded the entrance hymn procession to a singing church .
In his homily , Fr. Tobias Chi said that Kudat parish
consists of the three churches, St. Peter's Parish , Kudat , Our Lady Immaculate, Taipa and Sacred Heart's Church, Tajau
, one secondary school , four Primary schools ; all bearing the patron saint's name . Besides, there are also
the rectory , the convent , teachers' quarters and Rev. Fr.de Wit's Memorial Hall in St. Peter's Taman .
The priest continued to draw a clear picture of the life
of our patron saint , St. Peter , as the head of the apostles, the speaker of the group , the one who denied Christ three
times but regretted it and did repentance by spreading the faith throughout the non-Jewish world of that time . St. Paul is
another such character who turned out to be a great supporter of Christianity.
Judas , who committed the grievous sin of the betrayal of Christ , did not take the time to repent but to escape
by committing suicide .Thus , he could not be saved.
From these examples , Father stressed the importance of repentance or turn over a new leaf, should
we sin; for as humans , we are weak.
There was a colourful and meaningful offertory
procession of representatives from the three churches, all the bodies of St. Peter's Church , bearing gifts
and offerings to the smiling priest .
After the Holy Mass , the faithful proceeded to the Hall
for a tea reception .Then Fr. Chi , together with the parish council members cut the cake for fellowship sharing
. After that , they witnessed the prize-giving ceremony to children who took part in the colouring and drawing competitions
, held the previous Sunday. There was a slide show of the history of the church and the activities carried out as an
incentive to further more casting of our nets to the deep. There was also a lucky draw , to give away hampers
to the lucky ones.
All the faithful present were invited to a buffet lunch
to mark the close of the celebration .
